neo-surrealist paintings

Portraits

For years I have been painting houses, using the house form in a personified manner. The more I depart from these images, the more I gravitate back to them. As subjects, the house provides both interior and exterior spaces, offering a multitude of possibilities. Looking from within, my houses protectively observe the somewhat threatening world beyond. Looking from outside, the vulnerable interiors seem guarded. Although we cannot escape the hard realities of our external world -- due to the barrage of media-driven world news -- we can maintain a positive attitude and a sense of humor. My paintings may appear idealistic but are tinged by our dark times.
